What will Vonage actually charge you this month?

Vonage quotes every country in euro, and prices an outbound call by where it starts as much as where it lands. Pick your country and see the bill you would actually get, at the domestic rates a local business pays rather than the headline default.

Your month

Rates come from Vonage's own rate card, in euro, at the domestic-origination rate. Minutes are yours to edit.

How Vonage bills voice

Vonage bills voice in three parts. Inbound minutes are charged when someone calls a number you own, at a rate set by the country and whether the number is an ordinary virtual number or a toll-free one. Outbound minutes are charged when you place a call, at a rate set by the destination and, unusually, by the origin. Number rental is a flat monthly charge per number, published on a separate rate card from the minutes.

Everything is priced in euro, in every country, including the United States. That is Vonage's own choice and this page keeps it: we show their figures as they publish them rather than converting into dollars.

The origination catch

This is the part that surprises people. Vonage prices an outbound call by where it comes from as well as where it goes. Dialling a UK mobile from a UK caller ID costs about EUR 0.075 a minute. The same call placed with no caller ID costs about EUR 2.08 a minute, nearly thirty times more. Calls classed as coming from "remote countries" land in the same expensive bucket.

This calculator uses the domestic-origination rate, because that is what a business calling its own market from its own number pays, and it is the rate you should be planning around. It is also a good reason to make sure your outbound calls always present a proper caller ID, which is a setting rather than a negotiation.

What this calculator does and does not include

  • Included: inbound minutes on a standard virtual number, and outbound minutes split between landline and mobile, at Vonage's domestic-origination rate for the country you pick.
  • Number rental is included, from Vonage's separate numbers rate card, also in euro. That card quotes no monthly price for a United States or Canadian number on its voice sheet, so those two fall back to the figure on its SMS sheet, and the page says so. Vonage numbers are generally voice and SMS capable, but treat those two as indicative.
  • Excluded: volume and committed-use discounts, connect fees where they apply, recording and transcription, SIP and browser legs, taxes and regulatory fees.
  • A few countries, the United States among them, are billed at one flat national rate rather than split between landline and mobile, so both lines show the same figure. That is correct, not a bug.
  • Billing increment is per second on most Vonage routes after an initial period, which works slightly in your favour on short calls compared with per-minute rounding.

Why we show you a rival's price list

Because it is your bill, not ours. WhautoVoice is bring-your-own-key: you connect your own Vonage account, Vonage charges you the rates above with no markup from us, and our invoice is a flat platform fee with unlimited human talk time. We have nothing to gain from you not knowing what minutes cost, and quite a lot to gain from you comparing our flat fee against a bundled vendor that buys these same minutes wholesale and resells them at retail.

Frequently asked questions

Vonage prices every market in euro. In the United States it is about EUR 0.0044 a minute to receive a call and EUR 0.0124 to place one, at a single flat national rate. In the United Kingdom it is about EUR 0.0075 inbound, EUR 0.0124 to a landline and EUR 0.0745 to a mobile. Pick your country above for the current figures.

Because that is the currency on Vonage's rate card for every country. We show their figures exactly as they publish them rather than converting into dollars: a converted number would be ours rather than theirs, and stale the moment it was written. Your Vonage invoice will be in euro too unless you have agreed otherwise with them.

Vonage prices outbound by where the call originates as well as where it terminates. Dialling with a caller ID registered in the destination country gets the domestic rate, which is what this calculator uses. With no caller ID, or from a country Vonage classes as remote, the same call can cost many times more: a UK mobile is about EUR 0.075 a minute domestically and about EUR 2.08 with no caller ID.

It is included, from Vonage's separate numbers rate card, in euro like everything else: about EUR 1.04 a month for a UK number, EUR 0.83 for a Portuguese one, EUR 24.84 for an Indian one. The United States and Canada are the exception: that card's voice sheet quotes no monthly price for either, so the calculator falls back to the figure on its SMS sheet, about EUR 0.93 and EUR 0.72, and says so under the results. Vonage numbers are generally voice and SMS capable, so it should be right, but check your dashboard before you budget on it.

No. You connect your own Vonage account, Vonage bills you direct, and no markup is added. WhautoVoice charges a flat monthly platform fee in dollars and never meters your talk time. Two separate bills, in two currencies, and we never touch the second one.
